Synesthesia or synaesthesia is a perceptual phenomenon in which stimulation of one sensory or cognitive pathway leads to involuntary experiences in a second sensory or cognitive pathway. In this project I chose a song that I felt was really unique in that it includes many altering sounds and sensations. Due to the large amount of varying beats and sounds, I was able to really visualize the sounds in a unique manner. The colors and movements I created in the these visuals all coincide with how I felt when listening to this song, and I hope viewers feel the same as well.
Synaesthesia
This project explores the concept of synaesthesia, a neurological condition where stimulation of one sense involuntarily triggers another—such as “hearing” colors or “seeing” sounds. I was fascinated by how this sensory crossover could be translated visually.
Using Adobe After Effects, I designed a series of animations that represent how different sounds might be experienced through color, shape, and movement. The goal was to create an abstract but immersive visual interpretation of sensory blending, while experimenting with motion design principles like rhythm, pacing, and emotional tone.
